Sustainable Site Development
With our Greener, Sooner initiative, we are offering our customers a sustainable approach to site development - at the heart of this initiative is a unique approach and a one-of-kind all-terrain tree spade.
Our approach allows our customers to save thier most valuable on-site resources. With a GPS survey and tree inventory overlayed with an existing site plan, allows us to determine which trees we can save and utilize elsewhere on the site. As site contractors, we can seemlessly integrate the tree transplanting process with the site development phases.
The results are astounding and the value added to a project can be substaintial:
- Site Aesthetics
- Marketability
- Tree ordinance cost savings
- Faster permits and approvals
- Stormwater management
- LEED credits
- and more...
Our one-of-a-kind Tree Spade is the product of more than two years of collaboration between American Infrastructure equipment managers, German tree spade manufacturer Optimal and Swedish truck manufacturer, Volvo. Our goal was to create a tree spade that could easily handle tough terrain and heavily wooded sites in order to harvest trees up to 10 inches in caliper, and re-use them on the same site. The chassis, which "hinges" in the middle provides new levels of maneuverability around trees and other obstacles to reach targeted specimens. All- wheel drive allows us to operate on wet or uneven ground that would limit or prevent the mobility of other large tree spades.
LEED Credits
Applying LEED credits for using on-site tree transplanting would be a project specific determination by a LEED accredited professional. Applicable credits could include:
- ID Credit 1 - 1.4: Innovation in Design (1-4 points)
- SS Credit 5.1: Site Development: Protect and Restore Habitat (1 point)
- SS Credit 6.2: Stormwater Design: Quality Control (1 point)
